Time to BOSS UP
“I had no choice but to BOSS UP and create my own lane.”
It’s been a little over two months since I officially launched Falco Creative Media, LLC (yay!). I had imagined once I got everything lined up, my equipment bought and secured an office space, that I would hit the ground running. But that’s not what happened. After a little unexpected 6-week setback in my health (something I will share more about in 6 months), the new biz had to be put on hold. Again, not at all what I had pictured for 2017…
Starting a new business is scary enough. You put all your eggs into one basket and hope that your work ethic and passion will pay off. So, me not being able to work for 6 weeks, let alone barely leave the apartment, was by far *the most* frustrating challenge I have faced. But here we are, the middle of March and I am full of energy and happy with where Falco Creative Media is.
In a short amount of time, I have secured and maintained 3 clients—2 of which are previous clients. My new client, the Minnesota Optometric Association, was a great way for me to dip my toes into the entrepreneurial world. I was asked to attend their annual conference to take videos for their social media accounts. They ordered my ‘same-day editing’ package, which means I shoot, have the videos edited and up on their social media accounts within 2 hours of the event. I love deadlines, so I thought this is definitely something I should offer. Apparently, I know myself well. I had such a great time at their meeting and it was a joy working with their administration to help bolster their social media presence, even on a deadline.
In addition to two days of same-day editing, they asked for a 3-5 minute business feature. This was fun and they made it easy to have their video to them within 2 days of the final interview. Getting things done in a timely manner is something that is important to me and what I hope future clients recognize. I received great feedback from the MOA and want to thank them for being so generous. I look forward to working with them more in the future!
I feel like having a few setbacks when starting a new business is inevitable. I am happy that I was able to learn a few things with mine. I discovered that to achieve ‘success’ in the creative entrepreneurial world doesn't take just a good work ethic. It takes inspiration, motivation, education, application and the goal for continuous improvement. Although Falco Creative Media did not begin at full speed like I had hoped, I am on the right track and hoping for a very busy spring!
