Back On The Field

Two years ago, I covered my first ever MLB Opening Day — and it was glorious.

Whether you root for a team with big hopes for the season ahead or one that is years from contention, there's something about that first game of the new year. Little did I know that, by the end of that 2015 season, I would be in the locker room and on the field, covering that same team as it won its first World Series in 30 years. In case you don't know, I am talking about the Royals.

For the 2016 Opening Day, I attended as a fan. I’ll never forget being in the stands at The K, watching the boys in blue raise their well-deserved World Series Championship flag from the previous season.

Guess what? This week, I once again, spent Opening Day with the KC squad. This time I was away from Kauffman and right here in my new hometown. I covered the Royals for my former TV station—I shot postgame interviews, and sent them standups and b-roll of the main event. As I have mentioned before, I love being a sports reporter. For the longest time it defined me. I am not gonna lie, it felt very good to stand on the field with a mic in my hand.

The best part though is it was my company — not just me — hired. Although I previously worked for the station for 7 years, it meant that much more knowing that they weren’t just depending on my skills as a reporter, but also the assets that Falco Creative Media provides.

Combing sports work with the new services I provide has already proven quite successful and I am eager to help local (or not so local) stations receive the content their viewers want and crave.

As the Royals look to improve their bullpen (it looked pretty rough on Monday), I will look to continue networking with stations and sports organizations to let them know the difference Falco Creative Media can make for them!

The sound of fans walking through the gate for the first time this year, the look of the freshly cut grass, and the roar of the crowd; it all feels like home. Opening Day in Minneapolis gave me a little pep in my step and it felt like home.
